In winters, having a fully functional heating system in place is extremely important if you want a cozy home. If your heating system has already given up and needs to be replaced, now is the best time to do it, before the extreme cold weather arrives. However, you first need to find out how much a heating system will cost you if you replace it. Here is a breakup of the different costs you will incur when replacing a heating system:

Boiler Cost

The cost of the main central heating unit depends on the type of fuel it uses and whether you are replacing it or installing it from scratch. The most expensive part you will be buying in a heating system is the boiler which can cost anywhere between $500 and $1,500. Gas and electric boilers are typically less expensive, their prices falling within the given ranges. However, other heating system alternatives, like geothermal pumps, can cost slightly more initially.

Parts Costs

Other parts in the central heating system include a hot water tank, a cold water tank and radiator panels. A cold water tank can cost anywhere between $300 and $500. On the other hand, a hot water tank is slightly more expensive, costing from $50 to $500. A single panel radiator, with a size of 100cm x 50cm, can cost around $250 while double panel radiators can cost between $450 and $500.

Contractor Costs

To get your heating system installed in an effective manner, it is important to hire a professional contractor. This will cost you about $800 on average if you go for a good contractor. While you will be able to find cheaper labor than this, you will have to make a compromise on the quality of work.
In total, the complete replacement of your heating system can cost you, at least, somewhere around $1,200. However, if your heating system has been in use for over two decades, it might be a good idea to get it replaced rather spending money on continuous repairs.
