As mentioned in the services section of the site, two-stage furnaces and two-stage air conditioners

As mentioned in the services section of the site, two-stage furnaces and two-stage air conditioners are a good investment because they can work on a high capacity or a low capacity, dependent upon weather conditions. Most of the time your system will work at a lower capacity, but during harsh weather, it will work at a higher capacity. This makes dual stage systems extremely energy efficient and and ideal choice for the Southern California area.

Additionally, both variations of two-stage furnaces and standard blower furnaces are efficient and due to their low run speed they run much quieter and use less gas. Rather than a simple on/off operation, their flames can be on/high, on/low, or off. With the addition of the 2nd flame, energy costs become considerably lower and the unit wil run much quieter.

As the temperature is hovering a bit lower in the Los Angeles valley this time

As the temperature is hovering a bit lower in the Los Angeles valley this time of year, it’s wise to ensure that your furnace is properly functioning. One initial step in the right direction is ensuring that you can recognize large problems or even when something is functioning improperly. At that point, simply put in a call to American Air or call us before to schedule regular updates and avoid mishaps altogether!

To begin evaluating your furnace/heating system functionality, begin with some simple working knowledge.

-Remember that your furnace continually brings in cold air and acts as a filter
-This filtered air is dispersed throughout your home
-After cooling, this air is recycled throughout the home
-The process begins again

With this knowledge, you can begin to evaluate at which point in the process an error (if any) is occurring.

If your unit is cycling and you’re noticing when air is being both taken in and produced, but the air is not warm, always double check the internal heat pump switch and the thermostat. Turn the heat up to test the unit, and also check the circuit breaker and repair any circuits or replace breakers if necessary. Also, ensure that you check your pilot light if using a gas heating system.

If the heater is producing heat, but a disproportionate amount, the make sure to check the filters. Often times filters that have become progressively dirtier can restrict the airflow on your unit. If your filters appear dirty, call an American Air technician as soon as possible to evaluate them and potentially replace them for you.

For other issued involving your unit, ensure that you call our trained professionals to discuss the problem and solutions, and to prevent damage to your unit or yourself. Call toll-free at +1 (800) 934-5531

Here at American Air Conditioning and Heating, we’re big believers in social responsibility, and we try our best to help our heating and air conditioning clients and the community as much as possible. In addition to offering the best possible service that we can, we strive to join our community in progressive and beneficial initiatives. With that said, we’re pleased to announce that American Air Conditioning and Heating has donated to and continues to support the OPCC Daybreak Program.

OPCC, (formerly the Ocean Park Community Center), is a network of shelters and services for low-income and homeless youth, adults and families, battered women and their children and people living with mental illness. Founded in 1963, it is a community-supported organization in which staff, volunteers and clients work together with mutual respect to address the effects of poverty, abuse, neglect and discrimination. OPCC’s success with our clients stems from the full range of services provided by our ten main programs: the Access Center, Campion Mental Health, Daybreak Day Center and Shelter, k9 connection, Night Light, Safe Haven, Samoshel, Shwashlock, Sojourn Services for Battered Women and Their Children and Turning Point.

The specific program to which American Air Conditioning and Heating has donated is the Daybreak Program. This program was founded in 1987 and serves as the only program on the Westside designed for homeless women suffering from long-term debilitating mental illness. Seven days a week, the Center opens its doors and gives these vulnerable women respite from a difficult and challenging day to day existence and a place where their unique disabilities are understood. Services of the center include the following:

* Food, shelter, clothing and showers
* Mailing address
* Support groups
* Case management
* Sleeping cots
* On-site health care
* Special activities
* Counseling and benefits advocacy

American Air Conditioning and Heating is extremely proud to be contributing to this outstanding initiative and we always look forward to giving back to our community!

Here at American Air Conditioning, we’re always searching for great tips, tricks, and recommendations that will help our heating and air conditioning clients in the Los Angeles area reduce their monthly bills. While we continue to offer oustanding sales, service, and repair for your heating or cooling system, we also want to be a resource for you, the consumer, to consult about best practices and again ways to trim your utility expenses. As the cooler weather begins to set in here in the Los Angeles basin, you just might be using your heater a bit more than in the past few months, so we wanted to recommend some things you can do to watch those bills, but remain comfortable with the temperature in your home. See below for some great information from our friends at MSNBC and the Today show:

“High home-heating bills pack a real punch into household budgets across the United States each winter. They consistently pose a special challenge for people who rely on fixed incomes or live paycheck to paycheck.

At least there’s a little bit of good news this year: Many families are likely to see slight price breaks on their heating bills, especially if they use natural gas to heat their homes. The Energy Information Administration reported that this winter’s heating fuel costs should be $928 for the average household, down from $947 last winter.

But let’s face it: $928 is still a lot of money. If you’d like to reduce your heating bills even further this season, consider giving some of these free or low-cost tips a try.

1. Learn to love socks. If your feet are cold, your whole body will feel cold, so make a point of wearing socks around the house in the winter. The next step if you’re still feeling cold: Bundle up in a sweater or a blanket rather than cranking up the heat.

2. Tap heat that’s there anyway. There are plenty of activities you do around the house that generate warmth, such as cooking a meal or taking a shower. When you shower, keep the bathroom door open so steam spreads to other rooms, and don’t turn a ventilation fan on; it will rapidly remove the warm air you’re hoping to keep around.

3. Lower your thermostat. You likely won’t notice a huge difference if you turn it down just a few degrees, a move that can shave 5 percent to 10 percent off your heating bill. It’s especially wise to turn down the heat whenever you leave your home for several hours.

4. Watch that water heater. It’s also not likely to be noticeable if you turn down the thermostat on your water heater to, say, 120 degrees from about 140 degrees.

5. Consider a programmable thermostat. They cost between $30 and $100, but that’s money you’re sure to make back over the course of a year because your heating bills will drop. A programmable thermostat allows you to adjust the heat on a predetermined schedule, so you can lower the heat when you’re not home or when you’re sleeping.

6. Don’t let heat escape unnecessarily. Keep your doors and windows shut when the heat is on. If your home has a fireplace that you aren’t using, be sure the flue is closed and glass doors are in place to minimize heat loss. In addition to those bathroom ventilation fans, turn kitchen ventilation fans off when they aren’t needed.

7. Call for a checkup. Proper maintenance will help your heating unit run more efficiently. Electric and oil heaters should get professional attention at least once a year and gas heaters every other year. Also, here’s a step you can take all on your own: Remember to check the filters in your heating system and make sure they’re clean and clear. Dirty filters lead to higher heating costs.

8. Keep windows covered when it’s dark outside. This will help you reduce heat loss and keep cold air at bay, especially if you have older windows. But be sure to let in the light during the daytime — those rays of sun will help heat your home.

9. Explore outside. Check the exterior of your heating unit. Avoid stacking anything against the heat pump or draping anything over it. Hose the outside unit down to clear it of dirt, leaves and grass clippings. If your indoor unit appears to have excess water around it, see whether the condensate drain and pan are blocked.

10. Light a candle. Not for warmth, but for the purpose of doing a little sleuth work. Hold the flame near windows, doors and light fixtures and look for smoke moving in a horizontal direction. If you see it, that means you’ve spotted an air leak, and it likely means heat is escaping your home easily. To solve that problem, install some low-cost caulking or weather-stripping, or consider adding some insulating material.”

We are pleased to announce that American Air Conditioning and Heating has donated and supporting the 2011 Heroes of Hope Race for Brain Tumor Research.

The Facts

Brain Tumors and Cancer are a serious issue.

Chances are, you or someone you know, has been affected by brain tumors or cancer. Current statistics reflect that:
brain tumors are the leading cause of solid tumor death in children of all ages
brain tumors are the second leading cause of death in men under the age of thirty-nine
twenty percent (20%) of all cancers will spread to the brain

Due to the location of the tumors, most patients experience a loss in their ability to move, speak, see, hear and breathe, and present tremendous risks of death.

The Race

The Heroes of Hope Race for Research will take place Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Dockweiler State Beach. The day includes a 5K/10K, Kid’s Fun Run and Wellness Expo. Participant projections reflect thousands of runners and walkers, and will feature guest appearances from professional athletes, brain tumor survivors, prominent healthcare professionals, and celebrities…all in the name of finding a cure!!! Race day competition also includes the “Rivals United in Hope” (RUH) team competition which will pit teams across Southern California against one another in a friendly battle for the coveted trophies for biggest team and highest fundraising. Your participation will be an integral part in helping us raise the much needed funds and awareness for this disease!

Proceeds from the race will directly fund innovative pediatric and adult brain tumor research including the esteemed work of Dr. Linda Liau’s team at UCLA’s Department of Neurosurgery, Dr. Jonathan Finlay’s neural tumor team at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles/USC Keck School of Medicine and the Department of Neurosurgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

$600 RECYCLING ALLOWANCE FOR YOUR OLD EQUIPMENT (Working or not!) Within the Next 14 Days!

Yes, you can get cash for your old equipment: As one of the largest heating and air conditioning contractors in the San Fernando Valley, I normally have more work than I can handle. However the weather has been so mild lately that I still have some openings left in my installation schedule to fill. So to help jump-start demand before the next cold snap I will recycle your old furnace and/or air conditioner and pay you $300 for one or $600 for both within the next 14 days (working or not). I’ll either hand you a crisp check or give you a fat discount when you invest in a new furnace and/or air conditioner from me.
